"OMG My Life Is Ruined!"

This viral video has been going around humor and pop culture sites since this morning, featuring a viewer's reaction to Lee's win on American Idol. The lady in this video is a Crystal fan and suffice to say, she wasn't very pleased when Ryan Seacrest announced the winner.

I'd like to think I don't react the same way when I watch some of my favorite programs. But, shamefully, I do freak out in front of the TV, too (albeit a tad milder than this!).

I didn't follow this year's Idol Top 12, unfortunately (fortunately for me?). After Alex Lambert's surprising boot during Top 24, I just lost interest. I've pegged Crystal to win it though, because very early on she was already peaking. But Lee was someone I also rooted for during the initial rounds. So, none of the results surprised me anymore.

I think I've had enough of this show.

Noooo, Not Ellen DeGeneres!!!

Don't get me wrong. I love this woman a lot. She's one of the best persons to watch on TV. But whoever it was who thought to bring Ellen DeGeneres to replace Paula Abdul on American Idol is only after two things --- buzz and ratings. But yeah, why should that surprise me? It's the oldest marketing trick in the book in this industry.

Is Ellen musical? Yes. Is she part of the music industry? No. Is she a qualified judge? Hardly. Do those things matter? Not really. Paula was one of three and she stayed on for eight seasons.

Is she opinionated? Yes. Is she coherent? Not especially. It's not easy to get her jokes sometimes, she jumbles her punchlines. Have you been watching her show? It's cute when she does that....on her show. Will you find this cute when she's doing this on Idol?

Will what she say be interesting as judge? Will it help the contestants? Based on her guest judge appearance in last Summer's "So You Think You Can Dance" Ellen was mostly comic relief and did nothing to help the dancers. She was pretty useless, I'm sorry. Not to jump the gun and assume she will be this way on American Idol....but then again, what if she will be (just the comic relief)?

I don't mean she wouldn't take her new role seriously because we haven't seen her do this yet. Though right now, I am only sure I will love that she will be on Idol because she will be able to deliver the entertainment value.

But call me the Doubting Thomas, I am not sure how effective a judge she will be, to do this for 10-12 weeks no less.

And... I smell an overdose of Ellen in the long run (she's going to be on 5x daily, and 2x nightly now). Will Ellen lose her charm now that she's judging the most watched TV program on the face of the earth? (Hey, someone's bound to end up hating her guts no matter how likeable she is!)

I honestly hoped they picked somebody like Victoria Beckham for two reasons --- if she does well judging and is the biggest surprise of the season, then I would love this show back and sing my praises. But if she does poorly? Then put it this way: it's easier to hate the guts and viewer-critique someone like Posh, than hate someone like Dory.

American Idol gets a new Judge

So, does this mean American Idol is slowly phasing out Paula?

The big news on TV today is the addition of Kara DioGuardi on American Idol's judging panel. She is EVERYWHERE, rather, the news is EVERYWHERE. Is this a big deal?

"We are turning the heat up on 'Idol' this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges' table," creator/executive producer Simon Fuller said. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

Added Fox president of alternative Mike Darnell: "For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table. She's been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on 'Idol.' With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some backup, and now there is going to be a lot more girl power on the show." | THR

Kara DioGuardi is a Grammy nominated composer who has worked with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Santana, and Pink. She has also worked with the likes of Paris Hilton.

From last season's crop of talents, she was partial to Brooke White but her idol favorite has always been Kelly Clarkson.

The addition of Kara is part of Idol's retooling of the show, which has been on the drawing board since the middle of last season.

In this boxing match, who really won? The David vs David Analysis

In the left corner: David Cook

• will dub him as the American Idol "alternative contestant", an idol maverick if you will; because no one was like him on the show, for the first time ever. His style wasn't molded from joining singing contests.
  
• risk-taker, bordered on "obscure performances" so judges called him "original"
• rock-star cool demeanor, but super sensitive inside ...women so dig that.
• has an interesting past as a high school musical type...who would've thought the "rocker" was into this?
• singing strategy: sultry; pulling the notes for a big build up at the end...women dig that, too.
  
• was known to have said this contest was about "progressing" and he did show progress --- see: style and fashion sense
• appears to not have compromised his musical style for Idol celebrity stardom.
  

In the right corner: David Archuleta

• was considered the front-runner early on; early favorite pick
• oozing with natural talent and crystal clear vocal quality
• a singing contest veteran who already knows what works or not
• can move young girls and their grandma to tears with his song rendition
• innocent-looking and cute, Paula wants to put him in her pocket; so do many girls.
  
• singing strategy: slow ballads showcasing his technically perfect range
• so young and naive, record producers will have a ball molding him to whatever they want him to be; and because he's an eager learner he'll let 'em.
  

Based on tonight's performance? It was Archuleta who fought hard enough to deserve the title. Based on the whole season? David Cook should win it.

Based on voice quality? Archie. Based on stage presence and performance? Cookie.

Technically sound? Archie. Consistency? Cookie.

Which of the two was the most relaxed performing tonight? Cookie. Archie looked like he was minutes away from breaking down on stage, the poor kid.

And what is up with those time-traveling judges? Paula a few weeks ago saw the future. Randy tonight said it was 2007. Randy was clearly sipping from Paula's bottle. Seacrest too. His pupils look dilated. And Simon was so playing his corporate puppy card. Of course he wants people to vote and vote like crazy. So he disses the person he actually thought would win. He's no corporate executive, music mogul, reality show producer for nothing.

But who is actually winning?

Fans.

Who else could be winning?

Record producers.

Two great singers each. Two different fan base. One who makes young kids swoon, another for hormonal thirty-somethings like me.

They've got all age bracket covered. Who cares about the final crown?

Tomorrow I'm just going to enjoy the show immensely, whoever's the David who wins it.

Really, would I even bother? Guess I'd have to, I ran down the last nine cast-offs. But I was really expecting I'd be doing this for her a lot earlier (see my boot order below).

American Idol Top 4 - Jason Castro

But I don't mean that as an insult. I think Goofy is adorable....ergo...

I'll keep this short and simple (swamped, ugh!) --- Top 4 spot ain't so bad. And he's not exactly without talent. The laid-back attitude is refreshing to see (given my state right now, really). It's his kind of music I'd bring to the beach or when I'm de-stressing on a lazy afternoon.

In fact, I need to go be Jason myself.... and kick back and relax. Now let me find myself some of his songs to play in the background while I work...

American Idol: Top 5 Brooke White

My girl Brooke is gone. :( Just as well, since her nerves are starting to get the best of her. The girl cries about everything! She is a drama queen, alright. But I didn't get sick of it. I saw her for who she is --- a frail, emotional but lovely woman. (Don't get too darn close to Paula, Brooke. You're susceptible!)


I actually liked her final performance. Brooke and I are the same flavor --- Vanilla. Plain, simple. :P



Of the Top 12, I can surely say that if Brooke has a CD out, I'd be buying it. Hers, David Cook's and Jason Castro's.

What I can't believe though? Syesha outlasting every woman this season. If you had told me a couple of weeks back this was going to happen, I would've really laughed and mocked you, gave you a dollar and tell you to sit next to Paula.

This sure was a weird week.

How did this happen???

I'm suddenly swamped with things to do and with little time to do it. Dunno how it happened... I've not been behind but I've been struggling with keeping a schedule. Is the summer weather pushing me to slack?

Anyway... weirdness:

On House. First episode back after the strike and I do not know what went wrong. House and Cutthroat Bitch fight for custody of Wilson. How did that happen? Why did that have to happen. And why is Wilson not saying something about it, that wuss. Not the best episode ever.

On How I Met Your Mother. Ted shows real feelings of disappointment over Barney sleeping with Ted's ex. It's weird to see that knowing how convoluted plot developments are in this series. But I like that he reacted that way and showed, actual, human emotions.

On Samantha Who? Things are getting weird for Sam and her ex-boyfriend Todd. Are they getting back together? I've been asking this question since the 3rd episode back.

On American Idol tonight, which I haven't seen yet but have already read about. Simon called it the weirdest show yet, on account of Paula.

On Law and Order SVU tonight --- it's gonna be the the first time I'm watching this show straight after it's airing, I usually just try to catch delayed episodes on cable. The reason? Robin Williams is the guest actor....so, I can't wait to see that.

American Idol: Top 6 Carly Smithson

Okay, I admit --- I'm losing interest. "Always Be My Baby" was pretty much the highlight for me. I already have my winner but the show is still picking from the six (now down to five).

So, what can I say about Carly Smithson? I like her alright. I recognize she's talented but I do see what Simon has been saying all along about her --- that she's picking the wrong songs. And I can't get this image off my head when I think of her!


Carly you rocked. But let's face it --- it is going to be the battle between Davids. It's a good thing you left on a high point though. Your last performance was one of your best.

What's on TV this week? Just --- THE BEST WEEK EVER!

The best week of TV begins this week....I do not know how I will ever get something done or where I should start. I feel some pressure....alright, extreme pressure. And yet I'm also very, very excited about it. I think this week, I'll feel a lot like a newly grad on her first day at work --- anxious, eager, exhausted but fulfilled.

April 20

• Robert and Kitty visit a fertility clinic. Three months earlier, he dropped out of the Presidential race. He proposes dinner after Kitty is finished and she accepts, but wants to invite Nora and Isaac. Robert informs her they can't come due to Isaac having a special dinner for Nora, even though the Senator doesn't know what is special about it. Kitty is surprised when the man who defeated Robert in the primary reaches out with a possible offer for Vice President. Rebecca and Justin have their DNA tested to see if they really are related.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
Season 3 Episode 16 Sandcastles in The Sand
April 21

• The gang is excited when they will finally meet Simon, someone from Robin Sparkles' past. However, they get even more ecstatic when they learn he wasn't in the "Let's Go To The Mall" video but in her "Sandcastles in the Sand" video. Simon was, according to Robin's word, the hottest guy on the set. The others warn Robin that, with time, people change and it is possible that Simon isn't as hot as he used to be. No matter what the gang thinks, Robin still has a huge crush on Simon and acts like a teenager around him. Simon is part of a band that plays at small venues such as bat-mitzvahs. Barney transforms his apartment in a Bourne Identity-like control room in order to find the "Sandcastles in the Sand" video. Ted is still dating Stella.

• tuning to Bostong Legal and Lost Season 2 on cable. Just because.
• rooting for my favorite Idols on American Idol.
  

I wish there was a way I could get myself a powerful satellite or something...and move to Venus. Because over there? The days are longer...something I'd need to have to finish all these shows and still be productive.

American Idol: Top 7 Kristy Lee Cook

Kristy Lee Cook made it past Top 10. On hindsight, that was all she had to prove to Simon. Her performance last night wasn't the weakest. My girl Brooke was (still cheering you on even if you're losing shine, girl!).

In fact, Kristy was actually getting better and better. But perhaps American could not forget how many times she's been in the bottom three. And there's one too many Cooks this season. So, really...it was her time to go.

I'm putting up a different photo of this week's castoff, where I would normally put the profile photo from American Idol's official site. I just think she deserves a lot more credit, based on what I've seen the last three weeks. She's not the best singer in the bunch but I think she won me over with her cute sense of humor and cool demeanor. And I think she's gotten rid of that horse stance. I don't remember seeing her do it anymore. Am I right? Big improvement!

Plus last night? She was absolutely stunning.

So here she is, waving bye-bye!

Too bad, KLC...just when I was beginning to like you.

This week is probably one of the better weeks Idol's had. It doesn't make up for Michael Johns leaving early, but I did enjoy the remaining seven sing Mariah Carey's hits.

Everyone's talking about David Cook and you know what this guy is doing? He's keeping people interested. I'm sure you're wondering what David Cook's going to do next, huh? Because I am and I can't wait for him next week, when they do Showtunes with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Also last night, they had Elliot Yamin performing. That was a touching message he had on his palm for his mom. Aww.

That's why this momma loves this boy.

Well, I didn't watch this week's performance night yet. I might pick it up on YouTube later. But like most people....STUNNED about tonight's result.

Michael Johns? You could say he was Daughtry-ed.

He clearly was not gonna win this one. Top place already has the name Archuleta written on it. :P But Michael was Top 4 material and for sure, voters got it wrong tonight. They said no to an Australian Idol.

American Idol: Top 10 Chikezie Eze

Ah, David Cook this week showed them all, didn't he? You know I wasn't really impressed with Chris Daughtry but this David Cook...he's something else. He's very...musical. Oh, wait...he'd have to be, he's in a singing contest! :D

I was prepared to see Ramiele in the bottom three because I did not think her performance was good. But she scraped by and wasn't even at the bottom. Other people were expecting her there. I took a screen cap of this discussion in a forum I visit. I just found the conversation funny. Over there, Ramiele was heavily favored to go:


But in the end, it was Chikezie's time. He's leaving and I'm not even sure I got the spelling of his name right (Oh, the website says I did!). Some people have said he's never gonna be a "star" anyway. He has the voice but not the Xfactor. And I'd have to agree.

Well, at least he gets to go on tour...

American Idol: Top 11 Amanda Ovenmeyer

Beatles Part 2...based on what went on last night, it was a very, very bad idea. I couldn't really pick a favorite, even if there were a few good performances. The train wreck that was last night overshadowed my picking the best one.

Also a bad idea? This hideous top:

"I'm going to murder the person who dressed me up tonight!"

Tattoos and ruffles (or whatever that thing is on her neckline)? So not working together. Michael is very, very upset by it:

"Awww...Carly! You dressed up like my granny!"

Leaving this week is Amanda. Biker Nurse was just one spot away from landing a gig in the yearly Idol tour. But, I guess it's all for the better. I don't think she's going to enjoy the show much if she stays any longer. I mean, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond in a couple of weeks? It would have to be hard on her...so I'm guessing she's relieved. And we're relieved we don't have to sit and listen to her garbled renditions.

American Idol: Top 12 David Hernandez

This week's bottom two on American Idol deserved their place just for singing like this! WTH.

"Heee-yaw!"

Look, even Jason is cringing. He didn't like it.

"Please, Simon, make them stop singing like that!"

Anyway...granted that it wasn't the best performance of the night, David Hernandez did better than Kristie Lee Cook. And I can see you nodding your head in agreement. He really was better, no? I actually like David Hernandez. I like the clarity in his voice.

But did it come as a complete surprise, though? I can't help but think that maybe that news about him being a stripper came back to haunt him.

"Things happen for a reason. You'll see me at the top. This isn't it for me."

ClickTV: Hair-raising scandals on American Idol

I just posted something on this new blog I write for.

The biggest story on American Idol this season isn’t whether they’ve got a bunch of semi-pros in the Top 12. Nor is it Ramiele’s "racy" photos. It’s not even David Hernandez’ stripper background. The biggest story is right in front of us, whenever we’re watching these contestants on TV. It’s their hairstyles, dude.

And I blame Sanjaya for it. He started it all.

American Idol: Girls Night Round 3

First, some style issues. Please fire the stylist! These pants are atrocious. Why would anyone allow these girls to walk on stage, on camera, wearing this?

It was too distracting watching them, my eyes wandered towards the belly and crotch area. Unflattering! I wanted to strip them down and give them new pants right on stage. I wanted the fashion police to arrest Asia'h. At least Carly somehow carried it; black on black hid the flaws away.

I root for her, but she hasn't been exactly winning in the style department. The top says "workout", the bottom says "office party". The color says "old granny loves 'em drabby". Doesn't flatter her cute personality. She should be wearing lots of yellows and peach. And once again, I've really got to stop listening to Paula because I'm babbling about colors!


Not exactly an off style. But she likes her clothes shiny, doesn't she? Pretty girl doesn't look so good from the waist down, though. Her squat stance still bothers me. Like, she needs to go to the bathroom and do #2. Oh, and her eyebrows? Got a life of its own. I know it's unfair to be picking on her looks but what can I say about her singing when I don't enjoy country music? Not Kristy's fault though.


My other favorite girl has some class. She is picking songs that suit her and clothes that flatter her. Ladies and gentlemen, we've got a star here.

As for their performances....
Brooke is my top pick for the night.
Wrong song choice for Ramiele.
Amanda, I really enjoyed. For the first time, I see a really sweet and pretty girl. Should she ditch the goth/punk look?
Carly sang well; pitch perfect even with all the shrills, but I can't get into it.
Kristy...no.
Asia'h and Syesha.....ehhh.
Kady....go away.
