Cast News: Joshua Jackson on Fringe, Val Kilmer as KITT

As I've posted previously, Fringe, a new TV series by J.J. Abrams will begin production this month. And today, they have found their leading man in the person of Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek).

"The two-hour $10 million pilot, directed by Alex Graves, centers on FBI agent Olivia Warren (Anna Torv) who teams with Peter Bishop (Jackson) and his estranged father, institutionalized scientist Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena.

Jackson was the producers' early choice for the role of Peter Bishop, a high-school dropout with an IQ of 190, and a misfit who is scrambling to erase a gambling debt." | Coming Soon

Meanwhile, Will Arnett has begged off the Knight Rider project because of a contractual obligation. Originally picked as the voice of KITT, Arnett had to withdraw from this show because of a long standing relationship with General Motors, being the voice behind their commercials.

Unfortunately, KITT is a Ford Mustang in this updated version of the series.

The new voice of KITT is none other than Val Kilmer. | Variety

Does Lauren Stamile have a thing for doctors?

This week...

Nurse Rose on Grey's Anatomy, became an instant computer technician, saved a patient's life and kissed Dr. McDreamy:

Following that, I saw that she was also in need of medical attention, called herself Shannon and was confined to Sacred Heart (instead of Seattle Grace) while I was watching Scrubs:

What am I saying? Seeing Lauren Stamile in two shows, in one night was weird. And I'm not even loving her all that much. Although, the actress has an impressive list of TV guest stints, it won't belong till she has one special show where she's the star (and not just the guest) and I might find myself raving about that then.

Katherine Heigl on Izzie: "I don't know who she is right now..."

Grey's Anatomy sweetheart Katherine Heigl isn't too proud of what her TV character, Izzie Stevens, has become. In the current story line of series, Izzie has an affair with her married best friend, George O' Malley.

Says Heigl, an Emmy Award winner --- "That was a kind of a big change for Izzie, wasn't it, after she was so up on her moral high ground. They really hurt somebody, and they didn't seem to be taking a lot of responsibility for it. I have a really hard time with that kind of thing. I'm maybe a little too black-and-white about it. I really don't know Izzie very well right now. ... I'm trying to figure her out and keep her real."

Heigl also claims it was hard to love her summer blockbuster movie, Knocked-Up because --- "It was a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys."

What USA 2008 Presidential Candidates like to watch

TV Guide asked these presidentiables what TV shows they're into. And I can't help but notice how much this saying is true: YOU ARE WHAT YOU WATCH. Because at least three or four of them look like characters on their favorite TV show; while one can pass off as a Late Night Talk Show host. And Fred Thompson --- isn't he actually a TV actor?

What is Conan O' Brien up to during the strike?

Keifer Sutherland in Jail

Oh, I didn't know he got in trouble with the law. That's his mug shot right there.

LOS ANGELES - Kiefer Sutherland was sentenced Wednesday to 48 days in jail for racking up a second drunken-driving arrest in three years and immediately reported to a city lockup. The star of the Fox TV drama "24" was being processed at the Glendale city jail, said Officer John Balian.

Sutherland, 40, who pleaded no contest in October to driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08, appeared in court with his attorney and politely answered the judge's questions, said Assistant City Attorney Dan Jeffries.

His request to serve his time at the Glendale city jail was granted and he was ordered to complete the sentence by March 30, Jeffries said.

"Kiefer made the decision to surrender to custody immediately," his attorney, Blair Berk, told The Associated Press | More Here

He'll be out of jail just right after the strike is done, if that is settled by end of January. Speaking of the strike --- I'm hopeful, hopeful, hopeful.

Look-A-Likes: Phil and Kenneth

I've been trying to place why I think 30 Rock's Kenneth's face looked awfully familiar. Been trying to figure it out since last season. And seeing him out on a green field in this week's episode finally revealed it to me --- Kenneth looks like Phil from the Amazing Race!

Am I correct or do I have to take up on that eye doctor's appointment now?

New TV Characters You Should Meet

Natalie Zea as Karen Darling in Dirty Sexy Money
  • divorced four times
  • last wedding lasted 45 minutes
  • gorgeous
  • sexy
  • emotionally unstable
  • manipulative
  • Daddy's girl
  • has the hots for Nick (very much married)
When you meet her, you will love her clothes, shoes and accessories; you will love her for being so flirty; you will hate that she has tons of money. Karen is no bitch, but she's the different kind of bad girl. And she can buy love, or someone's dignity with moolah.

Zachary Levi as Chuck Bartowski in Chuck
  • geeky
  • dorky
  • good brother
  • sensitive friend

When you meet him, you will either find his dorkiness adorable or deplorable...but I'm betting it's the former; you will find his looks cute but will probably say he needs a make-over; you will need his help when your laptop, iPod, cellphone or [insert tech gadget here] dies on you. Chuck is not your average heartthrob, but he's still prince charming material.

The entire cast of Pushing Daisies which includes the dog...especially the dog!

I've been praising this show in heaps. And with good reason --- it's the best show on TV today. Adorable is the word that sums it up. It's hard to choose which character you will like best because every bit of them is wonderful....even the grouchy Emerson, who balances his cantankerous nature with his love for knitting and pop-up books. Where in TV will you find somebody like that?

Joshua Jackson on Grey's Anatomy

Joshua Jackson fans would need to wait until the strike is over, before they can watch his guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy. The episodes where his character will be introduced carry January 2008 air dates, and with the way things are, production has been indefinitely shelved.

If and when his guest stint pushes through, his character will be paired with an unlikely match --- Christina Yang.

Casting News: Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters

Some other things to look forward to TV, despite the strike that's really dampening my mood...

Derek Ridell joins Ugly Betty next week, playing Stuart, Christina's estranged husband. Derek is of Scottish descent and was last seen in the drama, State of Mind.

But I'm really more excited about Steven Weber, who will guest star on Brothers and Sisters. Steven was on Studio 60 last year and on Brothers and Sisters, he will play Sarah Walker's new love interest now that Joe has divorced her.

Threesome with Me, Conan O'Brien and John Cusack

It's something I've longed wished to happen --- this late night threesome with me and two men I've long admired: John Cusack and Conan O'Brien. That is, me watching Conan interview John on TV. (Why, what were you thinking? Mwehe.)

I had no intention of watching Conan late last night since I wanted to retire to bed early (Man, those Office recaps wear me out!). But it's a good thing the TV was tuned on ETC, or else I would have completely missed this moment. And apparently, based on the interview, John's been on Conan a few times and I wasn't able to see those! :(

  • Conan was his usual goofy self, very gabby and animated ... which is what I love about him.
  • John was very uncomfortable and hardly supplies anything personal about himself (as with most interviews) and keeps a certain polite but charming appeal... which is what I love about him.
These are two men I've been crushing on since I've learned to recognize my taste in the opposite sex. We've got the the dorky class clown and the anti-social (those are my types?? LOL!) --- someone who makes me laugh and someone so private and distant, I'm so challenged to pick into his brain and his emotions to discover who he is.

And with that, my night was complete. :)

Burn Notice Season Finale, Part 1

My summer TV viewing has officially ended with the finale of Burn Notice. Although, its season run isn't really over. 13 more episodes to this show will be aired next Summer, to complete one full season. (So what do you call a "finale" in the middle of its season run??).

Those who wish to follow this show locally, you can catch it on cable very soon, as Solar Entertainment has listed Burn Notice as one of their new shows next year. Crime/Suspense will probably carry this.

Anyway, I apologize beforehand since I've gotten lazy of writing about a decent recap for Burn Notice's finale. :( But you can read a full episode recap here. It's pretty detailed. ;)

What I really want to talk about is this --- After 12 episodes, I now see who Jeffrey Donovan reminds me of and why he so appeals to me --- Michael Rosenbaum!

Don't agree? Listen to the sound of their voices, the drawl and enunciation:

Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen in Burn Notice:

Michael Rosenbaum in an interview for Smallville:

Plus, they both have similar lips.

Cool TV Summer

It's actually the rainy season where I come from, so technically, the heat of summer isn't affecting me. Summer here ended two months ago. But USA's Summer TV viewing is really just heating up and you got to have something or someone to cool you down.

Who/What's the best ones to watch to cool things down this [USA] summer season? I've got a few suggestions:

Michael Westen in BURN NOTICE
played by
Jeffrey Donovan

Hands off! He's my new TV boyfriend; my summer fling... that is, until House comes back on TV.

Michael Westen is a fictional character in the television series Burn Notice. Michael Westen is an international spy who suddenly finds himself blacklisted. Dumped in his hometown of Miami without money or resources, Michael struggles to put his life back together and find out why he's been cut off. In the meantime, Michael uses his unique skills and training to help people who can't go to the police. - Wikipedia

Coolness factor:
  • Clever and inventive like MacGuyver, thanks to his years of training
  • Witty
  • Dresses well
  • Sex appeal
It has ran about seven episodes already and just yesterday, news has it that Burn Notice has been renewed for Season 2.

**********

Patty Hewes in DAMAGES
played by Glenn Close

As always, Glenn Close gets too much into character here, that I am actually very intimidated by her.

Hard-hitting and charismatic, high-stakes litigator Hewes is the object of fear and envy in a brutal, back-stabbing business. She is determined to protect the little people from the corrupt interests that are crushing them but whether she is truly on the side of justice, or is just a Machiavellian powerbroker, remains to be seen. - Wikipedia

Coolness factor:
  • Manipulative, snotty, high and mighty bitch
  • Shrewd and calculating
No word on whether or not the show is renewed for Season 2 but the finale for Season 1 will be on October 16th.

**********

The gang from MY BOYS

Five guys and one cute girl who is just one of the boys.

PJ (Jordana Spiro) is a twenty-something professional sportswriter looking for love within her world which is dominated by her group of male friends. Her tomboyish, no-nonsense approach to relationships tends to freak out potential suitors which leads her only female friend to advise her to dress and act more feminine. Co-starring Jim Gaffigan as Andy, Jamie Kaler as Mike, Michael Bunin as Kenny, Reid Scott as Brendon, Kyle Howard as Bobby and Kellee Stewart as Stephanie. - Wikipedia

Coolness factor:
  • An ensemble of actors with perfect timing and chemistry
  • The self-assured woman's version of Sex and the City
The show actually premiered in November with 13 episodes. The remaining 9 episodes are on for this summer.

**********

The gang from GREEK

I honestly did not expect to stick through this but it's one of summer's refreshing surprises.

The show follows the story of Rusty, a college freshman who wants to have fun in college and leave behind his reputation as a high school geek. He wishes to join a fraternity, but his sister Casey does not want him to interfere with her current enjoyment of Greek life, especially since she is running for president of her sorority. Most of the characters belong to either the fictional fraternities Kappa Tau Gamma (ΚΤΓ) and Omega Chi Delta (ΩΧΔ), or the fictional sorority Zeta Beta Zeta (ΖΒΖ). - Wikipedia

Coolness factor:
  • Everyone plays a character so conventional and yet that seems to work so well for the show that I don't really mind it.
  • It has heart.
  • It's perfect for Summer TV viewing...it got its schedule and timing right.
Greek originally runs for 13 episodes but it is doing quite well, the network has ordered 10 more.

Ugly Betty's new love?

Freddy Rodriguez (formerly from Six Feet Under) is in talks about joining the Ugly Betty cast. He is touted to play Gio, who sells sandwiches in carts by the street, and will grow smitten with Betty.

Yey, I like Freddy Rodriguez. But I'm bummed for Henry.

Focus on the actress who is Lexie Grey

No wonder she's sort of familiar to me, this actress, Chyler Leigh. She, of course, shall be more familiar to everyone watching Grey's Anatomy next season, as she will play Meredith's half sister.

I've seen her in Reunion, a TV show canceled in 2005 by Fox for not rating well. And I thought she was the one who could carry that show. Has that Jennifer Garner vibe, too.

A clip from that show:

Here's Reunion's synopsis c/o IMDb:
A relentless New York City police detective, named Ken Marjorino (Mathew St. Patrick), arrives in the town of Bedford, New York, to investigate the murder of a mysterious person at a 20th high school reunion. Through Marjorino's interviews with the suspects, the stories takes us back 20 years starting in 1986 where six close friends graduated from high school. They include good-natured and ambitious, blue-collared Will Malloy (Will Estes); wealthy and snobbish, white-collared Craig Brewster (Sean Faris); overachieving but direction less Aaron Lewis (Dave Annable); Craig's girlfriend Samantha Carlton (Alexa Davalos) who dreams of becoming a doctor; Samantha's best friend Carla Noll (Chyler Leigh) a struggling photographer; and the hip Jenna Moretti (Amanda Righetti) who's obsessed with becoming a world-famous actress. With each flashback we learn more about Will, Craig, Aaron, Samantha, Carla and Jenna over their various directions they take with their lives. With each passing year that we observe, it brings up more questions. Of the six, which one was murdered? Which one committed the crime and why? Why are the five remaining friends in the present seem to know what's going on and who are they trying to protect? What is Detective Marjorino's connection with one or more of the friends? Most of all, who is the mysterious and unseen 'third party' whom is anonymously sending the five remaining friends blackmail notes saying I-know-which-one-of-you-did-it.

The series didn't even have a decent closure when it got canceled.

In real life, Chyler Leigh, 25, is married to actor Nathan West. They have two kids.

Justice!

I'm too sleepy and exhausted to put to words what I want to say now. But let me just mention that this is the first PBB eviction where I was smiling from ear to ear!

my comic strip!

If you would like to see a bigger version of this photo, it is here.

Ding-dong, the witch is dead!
Whicholwitch?
The wicked witch!
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead!

...morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively,

With one wrong move, the hot commercial babe falls prey to an unfortunate eviction that she brought upon herself. Just to refresh your memory, her accidental lapel violation made her an automatic nominee for this eviciton night. And with four, short days to be saved by her avid followers, nothing stopped the fates for her to bid goodbye…

When PBB Host Bianca Gonzales announced this to the housemates, it was the Hardcourt Hottie’s turn to cry river of tears. But this time, it is not a Swap but a longer period of time will separate their team-up. With the unresolved issue between them, Bruce can’t accept the fact he lost her this fast! But before Wendy made her way out he left her with this parting words, “If we are really meant for each other, then let it be.” Despite the rift between them yesterday, her last hours were spent in Bruce’s arms, their hearts silently reconciling the conflict which threatens to break them apart, even before they become an official couple.

My Top 5 TV Girls

It's list time!

I have come to realize that unlike movies, challenging roles for women on TV are still limited. At least from the ones I've been watching. The women are usually characterized as the weaker sex or just the second fiddle to the leading man, with their neurosis and insecurities, and this insentient need to find the answers to what is wrong with them or with their life.

But, all the same, I've had the great pleasure of knowing some very interesting women of TV for this season. Women who, in some ways, I've found bits and pieces of myself in their characters.

Girl power, Top 5:

At #5
Jenna Fisher
as Pam Beesly
The Office
Can be seen via Star World or JackTV

Her Ganda Points: Sense of Humor. Quick-witted and smart. Very Pretty.

I like the character, Pam, because she's a very basic, the no-fuss type. And yet she commands the people around her, without them realizing it. She's nice but naughty. She's very confident in that non-threatening way.

I also enjoy the rapport between her and her Boss, wherein sometimes, she thinks better than her Boss.

I relate to the love story angle the show has given her character.

At #4
Amanda Peet
as Jordan McDeere
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Can be seen via ETC 2nd Ave.

Her Ganda Points: Sense of Humor. Brains. Beauty. Balls.

As the President of a TV Network, it's hard to be in Jordan McDeere's shoes. But she makes it look easy. In the process, Jordan has even gotten pregnant and has fallen in love.

Women executive types appeal to me because I have this thing for control (hehe!). Plus Amanda Peet characterizes her in a way that she's not the bitchy boss in the office, in fact, she's the boss-friend.

She also makes surprising decisions, which fortunately for her, always works. Like I said, the women has balls. I wish I had half that guts.

At #3
Sally Field
as Nora Walker
Brothers & Sisters
Can be seen soon via Studio23

Her Ganda Points: Very motherly. Very concerned. Very...all over the place. :D

What can I say about Nora Walker? She's such a crazy character, someone I imagine I would be when I turn 50. Mother of 5, devoted housewife, she tries to be friends with her kids but they still see her as mom. And sometimes she carries mothering too far and treats them like babies, even as they have their own problems to fix.

Nora is full of drama. Normally, I'd be miffed with people like that. But because I can relate to the drama of her life, being a dotting, meddling mom like her :D, I feel the things she goes through. I feel it when she cries or when she's happy.

Yup, that would be me. I'd be Nora Walker when I'm 50.

At #2
Connie Britton
as Tami Taylor
Friday Night Lights
Can be seen via ETC

Her Ganda Points: She's Nora Walker-lite. :) Has a sexy body. Has a sexy mind.

I like how Tami is such a strong character and yet not so strong that she overpowers her husband. I like that she can stand beside her husband, let him be the star and support him, while she does very wonderful things herself.

I like the way she reads people and as her character is a high school guidance counselor, I like the manner in which she imparts her advice to the kids. I like her understanding nature.

I envy her beautiful body! LOL! I have nothing like that body! And I like her thick southern drawl.

At #1
Kate Walsh
as Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery
Grey's Anatomy (and soon, Private Practice)
Can be seen via Star World and Studio23

Her Ganda Points: Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous!

I admit I have a crush on her. She's so stunning.

Her character is also something else. Well-bred, well-educated, well-rounded, but there's no arrogance about her.

What's interesting is she's also very flawed and makes no qualms about her flaws. This gives Addison's character some depth and room for improvement.

She's perfect in that not so perfect way, so very human.

My new favorite actress...

...would be Connie Britton.

I know this is a bit late, but I just saw one of Friday Night Light's recent episodes and was so impressed by the actors' calibre. Here's what I'm talking about:

As a mother, I would say this is exactly how I would react if I find out my child is thinking of having sex at 15.

My other favorite Connie Britton moment was in a scene with Tyra, her daughter's best friend:

Tyra: Thanks for helping me bring my mom home
Mrs. Taylor (Connie): You're welcome
Tyra: You can go home now, you don't have to have them cleaned
Mrs. Taylor: Well, I think someone's gonna have to help you here, honey
Tyra: Well, it's not gonna be you
Mrs. Taylor: Well, actually I think right now it's gonna be me
Tyra: You know, why don't you quit pretending that you actually give a damn about what happens to me and my family?
Mrs. Taylor: I do give a damn
Tyra: Oh please, you know I found out tonight you won't even let Julie hang-out with me, like I'm some kind of virus? So it's a little annoying when you come into my house and act superior, start cleaning up like you're some kind of friend of the family, coz you are not. So, you know what, you go take your precious little daughter and lock her away so bad people like me? We can't hurt her. Just go home!
Mrs. Taylor: Tyra...it's just that Julie's my girl. And she has never behaved like this before and I might have been blaming you for that, I mean you know, it could be that she's just growing up. And I thought that I would be prepared for all of that coz I'm her mother and I thought I could be prepared for whatever came down our way. Well, I tell you what, it feels like a big old freight train is heading right in my direction and I can't do a thing to stop it but I'm just trying. I'm just trying my hardest to stop it. So, I'm sorry Tyra.

Kudos too, to the writers of these episodes (Liz Heldens & Kerry Ehrin) for having materials that would bring out the best in these actors. Those lines and their stories realistically encapsulate what every parent feels about their growing kids.

FNL is, without question, one of the best new dramas of the season. ;)

Friday Night Ligths

Season 1 Episode 18 - Extended Families

Network: NBC

Thanks, Niles

With no internet access since Feb 16th (hence no updated TV downloads) I turned to my DVDs and watched, among many choices (including PBB Season 1, hee!), six seasons of Frasier.

I forgot how funny this show was and how much effective David Hyde Pierce is. He was the actor who played Niles Crane (who is perhaps, my favorite character in the series).

I was able to enjoy the long 10 days, thanks to Niles. It sure made my otherwise boring predicament... well, a lot, lot less boring. :)

Here are some classic Niles Crane lines from the show:

Niles: You spoke to a patient of mine today - Caroline. As a result of your fast-food approach to psychiatry, she left me.
Frasier: Caroline was your patient?
Niles: Two years of my hard work wiped out by one of your two minute McSessions.
Frasier: Niles, I merely suggested that she consider a change.
Niles: Based on what diagnostic method? One potato, two potato?

Niles: We all have to remind Dr Crane that this is real psychology now, not the radio. No hanging up on the hard ones here!
