Show Status: How are these new shows doing?

I have to say that many of these new shows have been underwhelming to me, so far. Although I'm enjoying the season, none have really hooked me so well as....maybe Revenge from last year?  I have my issues with Revenge now. But on its first 13-episode run (and before it had been picked up for a full season) the series was, in fact, flawless. There hasn't been anything like that for me with these latest freshmen shows.

Among the new drama shoqa, even Revolution's popularity hasn't lived up to my viewing pleasure. And I love Nashville and Last Resort, but with their low ratings in total viewership, I'm not sure investing in it would be okay, so I watch these with caution. Elementary has disappointed me so much, I've decided to quit it.

I made a comment about Vegas on my Twitter account, and said that it hasn't been talked about much but look at where it stands. I like that show. There are more rooms for development, but given that it is a procedural, I know the show won't be able to do much with story development.

Under new comedies, I am really, really happy for Go On's mild success and I am hoping the show picks up steam and have me rolling on the floor soon. I find The Mindy Project and The Neighbors quite entertaining, with a few hits and misses. Partners, which has been panned by critics, is a pleasant surprise for me.

Here is a ranking of where these new shows are:

Top 1: Revolution is leading the crop of new shows and has announced on its Facebook page that it is up for a 2nd season renewal. However, none of that seems to have hit the press and the announcement has been deleted on their page. Despite that, the show surges at 4.3 in the demo and it really is a hit for a struggling network like NBC.

The rest of the rankings are as follows, as posted on Deadline.
2. Elementary  CBS   9-episode order (22)   3.5/9
3. Go On   NBC   9-episode order (22)   2.9/8
4. Vegas   CBS   9-episode order (22)   2.7/8
5. The Mindy Project   Fox  11-episode order (24)  2.6/7
6. The New Normal   NBC  9-episode order (22)   2.5/7
7. Nashville  ABC  TBD  2.4/7
8. Last Resort ABC   2 Scripts   2.3/7
8. Partners   CBS   TBD   2.3/6
8. 666 Park Ave  ABC   2 Scripts   2.3/6
11. The Neighbors  ABC   3 Scripts   2.1/6
12. Ben & Kate   Fox   6-episode order (19)   1.8/5
13. Chicago Fire   NBC   TBD   1.7/5
13. Guys With Kids   NBC   5 scripts  1.7/5
15. Animal Practice  NBC   Cancelled  1.4/5
16. Mob Doctor  Fox   Unofficially cancelled 1.3/3
16. Arrow   The CW   9 Episodes (22)   1.3/4
17. Made In Jersey   CBS   Cancelled   1.1/4
18. Beauty And The Beast   The CW   3 Scripts   0.9/3
19. Emily Owens, MD   The CW   3 Scripts   0.5/1
Noticed that the fate of Nashville and Partners are still undertermined  (I hope these will be kept for another season, please!); while Mob Doctor, which will still air all its 13 episode orders, is basically considered dead.

I'm now eager to see the mid-season offerings from the networks with shows like The Following and Hannibal airing soon. Maybe these shows will totally wow me then.

What about you? Which of these have you seen and how much are you liking it?

Top 28 TV Shows for 2012 Fall Season - 1st Week DVR

As per Nielsen ratings record, these shows topped viewership in DVR (Digital Video Recording) usage during the first week of season/series premieres:

  1. Revolution (NBC)
  2. Modern Family (ABC)
  3. The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
  4. Elementary (CBS)
  5. NCIS (CBS)
  6. Person of Interest (CBS)
  7. Castle (ABC)
  8. Hawaii Five-O (CBS)
  9. Vegas (CBS)
  10. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
  11. The Mentalist (CBS)
  12. Criminal Minds (CBS)
  13. Glee (Fox)
  14. Once Upon a Time (ABC)
  15. Grimm (NBC)
  16. Blue Bloods (CBS)
  17. Revenge (ABC)
  18. CSI (CBS)
  19. Last Resort (ABC)
  20. 666 Park Avenue (ABC)
  21. NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS)
  22. Scandal (ABC)
  23. Bones (Fox)
  24. Private Practice (ABC)
  25. New Girl (Fox)
  26. 2 Broke Girls (CBS)
  27. Two and a Half Men (CBS)
  28. The Good Wife (CBS)
DVR usage allows viewers to record shows for watching at a later time. Viewers can fast forward in between commercials or pause the show when they watch. A popular DVR device is TiVo.

That Revolution would top the list is amusing to me because.... the show runs under the premise that sometime in the future, the world's electric power has ceased to exist and it's all back to basics. No one would actually be able to DVR their favorite TV series in a world were Revolution exists. Hee!

Anyway, based on this list, CBS has at least 14 shows, followed by ABC, Fox & NBC. The CW didn't premiere their shows until the 3rd and 4th week of the new season.

This is for the very first week of Fall TV 2012 only.

TV Show Ranking 2009-2010 (Broadcast Network)

Despite the slump, American Idol is still the #1 show on TV, as this finale series ranking from Neilsen proves it.

This ranking is composed of two parts. The first one is the audience share (demographics) and the second is for total viewers. Each part is very significant to how networks decide on which shows are staying or going.

Based on this list, Undercover Boss, a reality show where CEO's disguise themselves to join their workforce, emerges as the #1 new series of the season, while Glee has the distinction of being the #1 new scripted series, along with NCIS LA.

The #1 comedy to beat is The Big Bang Theory. While NCIS (the original one) wins it big for its network. I'm glad The Mentalist is still ranking on top and that 24 left the boob tube with very high ratings overall, as well.

The list, after the cut.

TV Ratings 9.25.09 - Flashforward Has a Fast Start!

Much hyped new drama series Flashforward debuts with really good numbers at 12.4M. It leads the pack in its slot, besting Survivor, a consistent top-rater.

Grey's Anatomy had its lowest premiere record in all of its six seasons, but remains the number one on Thursday nights and is still huge among the 18-49 target demo. CSI closely follows.

The Mentalist, now moved from Tuesdays, does well with 14.3M.

From TVByTheNumbers:

TV Ratings 9.24.09 - Modern Family & Cougar Town Massive!

So I was wrong. Viewers loved Modern Family, which premiered last night at 12.7M (4.3M in the 18-49 market). Cougar Town also did considerably well following MF with 11.4M, retaining the same market.

Mercy, also a debuting series, is still lukewarm at this point, as is Eastwick.

Glee contends with the premiere of MF and CT with 6.62M only but was equally decent and solid, retaining its target demographic.

Glaring results for The Beautiful Life which has slide way down, with only 0.5M viewership from its target.

TV Ratings 09.23.09 - NCIS (and spin-off) Dominates

Crime shows ruled this night with huge openings for NCIS, it's spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles.

Of the two new shows up against each other --- The Good Wife and Christian Slater's new starrer, The Forgotten, the former edged out.

The remake of Melrose Place, which premiered a couple of weeks earlier, is really struggling that's why the big guns are now calling on Heather Locklear to guest star.

TV Ratings 09.22.09 - House Wins, Heroes Lose!

House was Monday night's most watched program with 16.5 million viewers (6.5/18-49). The two-hour premiere was described as something like a feature film. Meanwhile, Heroes lost 46% of its audience (against last year's premiere). Gossip Girl, also on this same time slot, whimpered.

The Big Bang Theory is climbing steadily. The junior series had a record almost as strong as Two and A Half Men, a viewer favorite. HIMYM did pretty well, too.

Dancing With The Stars had its poorest premiere rating, compared to its previous seasons.

New show Accidentally on Purpose, I think, did alright (8.99Million 3.2/18-49) but it's still too soon to tell if the show is sticking around. More on this later.

Sophomore series, Castle, bested Leno's show but it's CSI Miami which ruled 10 PM. No surprises.

Well, I've come to terms with the fact that Pushing Daisies will be canceled. The numbers aren't improving at all. Last night's episode was beautiful, but I really don't think an average viewer gets it. I'll begin mourning now...

TV Ratings [11.19.08]

Last night, I got caught up with Chuck, which actually aired two days ago...and I've kinda gotten fond of Jill, his ex-girlfriend. Why I'm bummed to learn she's actually a Fulcrum agent surprises me, when of course it's obvious. Anyway, that has nothing to do with this batch's ratings. But I just want to say --- Chuck has been improving a lot this season, characters all evolving. Kudos.

So, Tuesday night's shows...

The Mentalist delivers one of its most satisfying episode last night. I got to watch a deeper side to Patrick Jane, one I really felt pity for. That final scene when the psychic relayed to him the message from his dead family? That was poignant and moving. H really needed to cry it all out because he's been holding in a lot of grief.

I keep on watching Mentalist and saying this to myself every time --- this episode will be my last. I'm crazy for ever thinking I won't be involved in this show. But now I'm drawn to it as much as I am drawn to Life. The Mentalist is permanently on my viewing list.

House continues to be my favorite. It has been staying strong with its key demo. Last night, Foreman stepped up and took another case without House's help. So, that's how they're going to make use of Cameron and Chase!

Speaking of key demo, I haven't actually paid attention to Fringe's ratings. I wasn't aware it had a stronger niche following. Way to go, geeks...err nerds...err geniuses.

And Privileged performs way below the bar. Sadly, I think this one won't be renewed next season.

This one's a bit late today, sorry...it's so crazy over here and I think it will be crazier till the end of 2008. Can you believe it? Another year is almost over...

Anyway, can How I Met Your Mother get a "whoooooo!", y'all? Last Monday's episode which was about "Whooo! Girls", posted its season high. CBS should be very, very happy this show is doing so well. It has been quite a rough three years for HIMYM. And it took them four years to finally get what they deserve --- an audience that keeps on tuning week after week! And to even beat Dancing With The Stars demo is something too!

Eli Stone was the only loser from the list I watch on Tuesdays. Like Pushing Daisies, its quirky stories aren't clicking with the viewers. It's also likely to be canceled than renewed. Sad.

While I'm still loving Fringe (and Walter Bishop!), I have been waiting and waiting for more leads to the conspiracy. I need a reason to get hooked. I see why it is starting to drag for other viewers --- it's the repetitiveness. Even Peter and Astrid are exhausted, doing the same wires-attached-to-the-brain procedure again and again. Two more episodes of that and I'd have mastered the drill, too...and will begin experiments on my family mwahahahhaha.

Meanwhile, The Mentalist pounces. Three words: Big Freshman Hit!

Kudos to Big Bang Theory for hitting an all time high. The show just earned 10 Million viewers...it's really been getting better and better. I think the other night was the most laughs I ever got watching BBT. Bad news for Heroes as it continues to slip, slip and slip even further.

And this is the week I've decided I'm giving up on Worst Week. As much as I sympathize with the Sam character --- and really, the actor playing him is doing it well, I mean, it's hard to get annoyed at him or anything ---I am getting annoyed at Sam never getting any breaks at all. His streak of bad luck is coming to him in waves. No one is that unlucky! So, I've had enough.

Did moving to Wednesday from Friday night help Life? A little bit. But nothing to rave about yet.

Did moving to Wednesday from Monday night help Gary Unmarried? Comedies that night were down, but it did increase its demo. I hate to admit it, I'm hooked on this one. Mention Chandler, Monica and Friends; throw these words in the dialogue --- then you've got me!

Gary Unmarried switched spots with Worst Week (which moves from Wed to Monday), but the latter didn't benefit from it. I'm now seeing how unrealistic a storyline Worst Week carries. I've little hope for this show to prosper beyond the season.

I did not realize how low Prison Break has sunk. Last time I was watching it (as in two seasons ago), it was still up by 7-8M. Now it's down to 5M.

Samantha Who? dips too. It used to get double digits last season.

The real winners are Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. These two shows are benefiting from each other's back to back pairing.

Didn't have this all week last week coz I had the attack of the lazy's.

The Simpsons won last Sunday. It had its highest rating in five years and the highest in its demo.

Brothers and Sisters' ratings slid. Popwatch thinks the show needs to be fixed. I'm thinking Nora needs to get her hair done. Do you think the show's losing its luster?

I've missed watching The Amazing Race the last two weeks. I've got to get back on track!

I have dropped two of Thursday's show on the list. I quit watching Survivor because as much as Gabon is really exciting, I've really grown tired of it. Since I'm watching Survivor Philippines, too, I'm getting an overdose so I have to give up one. I voted Gabon out.

I dropped Eleventh Hour figuring I'd catch it on cable sometime next year when it begins airing here.

So...Thursday nights are swift. That enabled me to catch up to DSM, Lipstick Jungle and whatever I haven't watch the previous nights and slipped an episode of No Heroics on as well. I've got my viewing schedule in order now. Yay, me!

I continue to be sad about the state Pushing Daisies is in. Last night was another great story few people saw. I have stopped asking what is going on and will instead just focus on the remaining episodes yet to air.

On the other hand, Gary Unmarried continues to surprise me. The characters aren't easily likeable but I keep finding something funny about it.

Also watched Private Practice. Third episode down, and the show has really been improving its stories.

New show Stylista premiered this week, don't really care for it.

House had another slammin' episode this week with a little of that girl on girl action. It is also getting good scores with its key demo (which I don't put here). So...yay!

Saw Fringe last night...drifted for a few minutes, seriously. The science talk is tuning me out. I mean, it's interesting but I think I'd have to start watching this show at a different time, when my mind isn't functioning less. But oh...Walter Bishop --- I want to take him home!

Haven't check out this week's all important Eli Stone episode with Katie Holmes. Apparently, some 300,000 of you also do not think it's worth checking out. I've seen some of this episode's clips on Youtube and Katie singing and dancing? Wasn't impressive, sorry.

This is for network TV only. I was hoping to put the ratings for cable TV, seeing that I've been watching Greek and it had been a good, solid two weeks for them too, story-wise...But cable's overrun with Presidential Debates and Season Games, it's hard to compete with that in the ratings.
