What TV shows do you HATE-WATCH?

"HATE-WATCH is a fancy term for watching shows you don’t like but get perverse satisfaction from."

This quote comes from a Washington Post article that refers to Smash, which is getting a lot of hate-watchers. Not bad for the show, though. At least there IS someone watching it.

What shows do you hate-watch? I'm trying to think really hard.

The first show that came to mind was Ringer.

And then Glee.

And then any TV series that this production company has done. One of these shows stars the actress in the photo I've choses for this blog entry. :P

But I've quit watching all these shows because it's bad for my emotional health. :P I can't even stick with watching just to mock, as hate-watching is also defined as:

a sport that used to fall under the broad term “guilty pleasure,” but now seems retrofitted for the age of social media. It goes something like this: You watch a show you wouldn’t choose to watch for any reason other than to mock it for its awfulness — say, by sharing snide Twitter exchanges with like-minded hate-watchers when the program airs. Collective delight.

And I don't hate-watch Smash. Not yet at least.

Kelsey Grammer + David Hyde Pierce = Rachel Barry's Two Gay Dads on Glee? Yes or No?

There's a lot of news about casting stunts on Glee. Every week, you hear [insert actor's name here] supposedly scoring a guest appearance. Names like Javier Bardem, Katie Holmes and Justin Timberlake have come out. Some of the rumors are so absurd that Cory Monteith had to twitter a denial of it.

It's no secret stunt casting sparks interest for any TV show. And inspired by all these crazy news, I thought I'd pitch for my own stunt cast rumor for Glee, too.

Who knows? This could actually happen.

Kelsey Grammer & David Hyde Pierce 

We've never seen Rachel's gay dads on the show, haven't we? And at some point, they will have to make an appearance. Who do you have in mind playing the roles?

Well, I have two and I think they would be perfect for it: Kelsey Grammer & David Hyde Pierce.

I can already imagine it. Together, they're going to be a riot. As gay dads of Rachel, they're going to cause a lot of ruckus. These two have an amazing working chemistry, having them back on TV playing a gay couple would actually be a stunt casting COUP!

And as a bonus? Kelsey and David are seasoned theater actors who CAN sing! If there's anyone who can relate to Rachel's character, it's them.

Watch these two on their hit show, Frasier, from a few years back, as they find themselves awkwardly inside.... a gay bar:



So, what about it, Ryan Murphy? Think this will work?

Yes, Charice will be on Glee. And there is a Glee Movie coming up!

Michael Ausiello has confirmed, Filipino pop star, Charice, will be appearing on GLEE:

I am NOT a fan of this girl. Sige, batuhin niyo na ako ng kamatis. :P Pinoys are now flooding Ausiello's blog with comments. This should be interesting. ^-^

Glee Marketing Pushes to the Limit

Well, music legend Michael Jackson did say --- "don't stop till you get enough!" And that's probably the philosophy behind Glee's marketing arm.

The series, which has earned the highest finale rating at 11 Million viewers (one that happened last during Twin Peak's season finale in the 90's), is not only coming out with media merchandise like DVDs or CDs.

By Fall season, they're also coming out with a fashion line. Kids can dress up like Rachel or Quinn, or look cool like Puck once the clothes, accessories and maybe even shoe collections are out. I dunno if they're coming out with collections following after Emma Pillsbury's style, but it would be awesome if they did!

And then sometime in July, the first of its book series is also going to be published, followed by another book which will come out by Feb 2011. The Glee Books will be written by Sophia Lowell. The stories will serve as prequels to the series....the beginnings of how the characters coped with high school, before they became part of New Directions.

This idea isn't so bad, I suppose. Kids hardly pick up books these days and if this is Glee's way of driving the literacy rate up....then read away, Gleeks!

Glee Wants Uncle Jessie

Last year, Glee went on a hiatus but left us with a highly charged episode. The New Directions wowed the crowd during Sectionals and proved they will be tough competition. This time around, the season finale song numbers at Regionals were nothing to really rave about. It was underwhelming. I think what they tried to do instead, was to wrap up plots that were otherwise unclear in past episodes. Even then, it was still uneven.

But this is Glee. And I only know a handful of people who don't quite get why Glee is cute and entertaining.

However it turned out tonight, there will still be millions watching it when it comes back for a second season in the Fall.

And when it does, guess who will be there? This guy:

Ausiello writes that Fox is considering hiring John Stamos to play Emma's new dentist boyfriend. The actor also happens to sing. So maybe we can expect a sing-off between him and Mr. Schu. How'd you like that one?

Spot it? It's on camera so many times, you can't miss it. Filipinos everywhere are probably going to celebrate with a bucket of Chicken Joy after watching the #1 fast food chain store's logo on the current #1 TV show.

Oh, choreography for this Safety Dance is cute, too!

So many things to like about this episode (Episode 19th, Dream On)---

• I liked the number with Idina Menzel & Lea Michelle. When you watch this, Idina would probably leave you speechless. Please remember to breathe.
• I liked hearing Neil Patrick Harris singing. Pitch perfect! Why is this man gay? I think we need lotsa little Neil Patrick Harrises on TV.
• I liked that this episode was directed by Joss Whedon. Maybe that's why it had a different tone to it. There was heart. And I've got boxes of tissues next to me while watching.
• I liked that Kevin and Tina actually had a storyline.

What I did not like?

Tina still did not get to sing and I saw little of Sue Sylvester.

Damn. Almost perfect, Glee. Almost.

Sue Sylvester is in my Cafe at Cafe World

I know it may sound pathetic when I say I'm addicted to Cafe World. It's this game application available on Facebook that lets you run your little restaurant and I've been hooked like crazy. I just love decorating and redecorating, which I know I can do on Yoville or Pet Society (Facebook speak, sorry!) but this is the only application that's running faster on my laptop. :P

My cafe is named Cafe' Nervosa. Those of you who followed Frasier for 11 seasons may find that name very familiar. Although, I didn't follow Nervosa down to a tee. Its interiors are in wood, dark brown, dark green and deep red, as I remember it. But I fell in love with the French-y blue chairs they have on Cafe World and went with that instead.

Anyway, once in a while I have a customer coming in wearing a yellow track suit and has blonde hair. And she reminds me so much of Sue Sylvester from Glee!

Scoot Over Addison Forbes Montgomery, Emma Pillsbury is now my TV Fashion Icon

The other reason why I love watching Glee, aside from the singing and the dancing?

I'll give you a clue --- she's cheeky, she's colorful, she's this doe-eyed retro-geek you see in all these photos below.

She's Emma Pillsbury, the adorable Guidance Counsellor and Glee's resident neat freak. Does she not have the cutest sets of clothes and accessories?? Ever?

Jayma Mays, the actress who plays her, calls the style "quirky-chic". There's plenty of adjectives to describe it ---- prim, vintage, classic, retro, geeky. It's so unlike my previous fashion figure of choice, Addison (Kate Walsh), who usually wears these sophisticated designer clothes  on Private Practice.

Lou Eyrich is the costume designer for Emma and the rest of the cast of Glee, who last week dressed the girls up in eyelets, laces and sunshine-y yellow:

And because of this, I've been obsessing on vintage clothes on Ebay, finding the perfect Emma blouse.

Must. Resist. The. Urge. :P

Glee: Fave Video of the Week - ALONE with K. Chenoweth

From last week's episode, I pick this one as the favorite. 1) Because I love the song, 2) Because I'm in love with Kristin Chenoweth. 3) Because that's 1 + 2.

She. Effing. Nailed. This!!!

Modern Family, Cougar Town, Glee & Gary Unmarried Premieres

So overwhelmed with Wednesday's TV line up...too exhausted to post per show watched. In putting my .02cents in, I'm doing this bullet style instead.

Modern Family, Pilot Episode
- Liking that it is done mockumentary style.
- Like that this is really a reflection of what a typical family is these days.
- Ty Burrel as the oblivious father? Most hilarious character.
- When a family schedules when they can shoot their son as a form of punishment (he shot his sister with a pellet gun; an eye for an eye)... it has to be the funniest!
- Too many stars from previously cancelled shows ended up in this one.
- Big, big cast but no problem with chemistry. Likeable, all....every bit of them, including the kids.
- "Circle of Life"? Crazy.
- Really liked it but I have a funny feeling it's not going to be well-received by the mainstream audience. Still too offbeat, me thinks.

Cougar Town, Pilot Episode
- First 10 minutes had me. The voices inside my head were screaming "Emmy for Courtney!"
- Then it went downhill. Felt like the first half of this was laid out perfectly, the other half was so crammed it was uneven. I think I remember reading somewhere they had to re-tool the pilot? Guess too many changes spoiled it.
- Love the mother/son dynamic. Love that kid who plays her son (from Aliens in America).
- Actually...love every bit of the characters, including the ex-husband.
- Hope it finds its direction because it is potentially funny.

Glee, Episode 4: Preggers
- Favorite moment of the week video, I could not stop grinning while watching this:



Gary Unmarried, Season 2 Premiere
- I actually missed this show and was glad it's back. Not watching it? Try it. Witty lines.
- The brother is a regular now?
- New job for Gary, so new characters from work, too? And possibly a new girlfriend? This is getting interesting!
- The actor playing the son is going to be the future Neil Patrick Harris. He's comedic timing is perfect and he's only about 14 (15?).

And the first show to get a full season order is.....

...what else? It's GLEE!

"Glee" is the first new show of the fall to get a full-season order.

On the heels of two strong performances, Fox has picked up the back nine episodes of Ryan Murphy's acclaimed musical comedy.

"The response we've received to 'Glee' has been remarkable," said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly. "It's already got the makings of a cultural phenomenon. I've seen all 13 episodes, and Ryan Murphy, his team and the talented 'Glee' cast have knocked our socks off with their incredible work. We're happy to pick up this gem of a show, and can't wait to see what they'll do with the rest of the season."

Arguably the most inventive new series of the fall, "Glee" was previewed in May in what was then considered a risky move -- debuting a pilot several months before the series launches. But earlier this month, "Glee" officially launched to a strong 3.5 rating among adults 18-49, making it Fox's highest-rated scripted fall premiere in three years.

Week 2 was a particularly mild drop for the Wednesday night program, the series falling only 9% despite increased competition.

Nonetheless, a pickup after two episodes is pretty quick in broadcast TV, and comes before most competitors hit the airwaves during the next two weeks. "Glee" will face ABC's freshman comedies for the first time this week.

"It's fantastic to be the first show picked up and that this underdog series, like its characters, will get the chance to keep singing," said series co-creator/executive producer Murphy. "There are so many more stories to tell."

Is Glee Sex-ing It Up?

This week's favorite number...

It's kinda weird that in the last episode, the kids performed a suggestive routine with Push It and was opposed for doing it. And then this week, their teachers let loose with this one, and nobody complained (well, except Josh Groban, I think... who had an interesting cameo!):

Hilarious, this Acafellas! Teacher Will had his groove face on and was really digging it. Looking really smokin' isn't he?

The Magic that is Glee!

Which of the following is true for you? You watch GLEE because...

• You like music.
• You like high school.
• You like High School Musical.
• You get the teenage vibe.
• You want to relive your own teen vibe.
• You remember how it was at your own Glee club.
• It was nothing like the show, but...what a nice fantasy it would make.
• You want to be entertained.
• You want something light and funny.
• You're the type to do a Showmance.
• You are gay. (And that is fine!)
• You are not gay but a guy's guy...you just enjoy the music. (Hey, I pitched this to some guys and asked them to watch...loved it!)
  

Whatever reasons you have underscored, all that Fox hoped for this show is working. "Glee" is fast becoming its new money-making machine and a lot of us are so sucked into watching it. I don't mind being that sucker. I'm having fun watching, thank you very much, Fox geniuses!

Sure, there are a few technical things to iron out (such as the lip synching, the editing, and the repetition) but I tend to overlook that once they get into the singing...

And the singing? It is grand. Not only do they pick great songs to cover, they sound pretty good too. I applaud every time, every number. Last episode, my favorite was Rachel's version of Rihanna's Take A Bow. It's theatrical and over-acted (and I love that it is!), but you can't fault her voice. She is wonderful:



I also took note of how no one is normal in this show! I love that many of the characters are all flawed, cartoonish and crazy. It also helps that they packed this show with wisecracks, clever double entendres and black humor. It all works out.

This brings me back to a time when "Pushing Daisies" first premiered...not many people liked it, some thought it was cheesy but to me it was magical and now, Glee feels the same way.

So very glad for shows like this! It makes me genuinely happy!
