Jump and dance to this, I dare you....

Oooh dear lord....I'm trying to resist posting this, but my fingers aren't listening. It's cheesy as mozzarellas! But I love mozzarellas. So it goes without saying I love this piece of....crap. LOL! No, it's not crap, I take that back. It's...iconic? Just watch and listen. Or get up and dance.

As a five or six year old, this was the TV theme song I always jumped and danced to whenever I hear it on TV. I think I was even encouraged to take Hawaiian dance lessons because of this.

Wheeee, am shakin' my booty!

Late posting...

It's past 1 AM over here. And I just want to post this, albeit four or five years late (?) ..... I love Felicity!

come from listening to ourselves."

Watching Felicity on a damp weekend

If there was one thing I especially loved about watching Felicity it's that I had the right timing watching it on a damp weekend. The mood perfectly fits the current weather here in Manila.

For instance, the opening credits:

I say that ^ almost feels as good as having a very good book to read, with a warm cup of hot cocoa (with marshmallows!), on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Felicity follows the life of a young woman in college. Free from the clutches of her parents who would have showered her with everything she needs, she now makes decisions for herself to shape her young adult life.

A defining moment, what this show centers on:

Felicity aired on The WB from 1998-2002 (4 years of college) and was a series created by JJ Abrams, who is the man behind Alias and Lost.

The Job - Complete Series

The Job - The Complete SeriesDenis Leary's first crack at television was not as successful but it wasn't also a disappointment. The Job was unexpectedly a very entertaining series. Why it didn't last on TV is a wonder to me. It would have been in league with The Office.

Shown for two seasons in the year 2001-2002 on ABC, The Job is a comedy about New York City cops. While shows like Law and Order or NYPD Blue demonstrate cops as heroes, The Job does just the opposite. There are no big crime solving escapades to this show. Only small crimes, pranks, police officers messing around with each other and Mike McNeal (played by Dennis Leary).

Mike is that typical renegade cop who defies the captain's orders and approaches his job questionably. His personal life is also a screw up, balancing time between his wife and girlfriend, as well as all the other rubbish he gets himself into.

The rest of the police force is composed of a mix bag and quite frankly, reminds me too much of The Office characters. Interestingly, both shows pretty much carry the same brand of sharp comedy.

The Job was canceled after 19 episodes because of ratings and scheduling problems.

Kidnapped

Kidnapped - The Complete SeriesKidnapped is a series that reminds me a lot of the movie, Ransom. It is very similar in that it follows the movie even down to the ending --- when it was finally revealed who the real bad guy was.

To compensate, Kidnapped did have a very strong cast led by:
  • Timothy Hutton (I used to confuse him with Tom Hanks back in the 80's!)
  • Dana Delany (love her in this series!)
  • Jeremy Sisto (who is more familiar to me as that deranged junkie-brother from Six Feet Under).
In Kidnapped, Sisto is a bad ass who works as a freelance kidnap victim "recoverer" ...or whatever his job description should be. He has the right nose and the best intuition for the job. And for conflict, his character did not like playing by the rules... which makes his scenes very interesting and exciting. Also in the cast is Delroy Lindo, who is (trivia! trivia!) originally part of the movie Ransom and played almost the same role in this series! (Hello, stereotype?) He is the FBI agent Sisto's character has to work hand in hand with for this case.

The kidnapped victim is the son of one of New York's premiere business men (played by Hutton); a business man who got to where he is by virtue of marriage --- Hutton's character is married to a socialite, old money (Delaney).

All in all, I found Kidnapped not to be an entirely compelling series. It's worth watching, alright. But it doesn't have the same intensity as 24, which is somewhat how this show was played out.

Somewhere in the middle, the story felt like an extended episode of Without a Trace or Law and Order. But still, it is a shame a series like this was not given the chance to develop into what it should be. Because after about five episodes (out of 13) the show was already canceled. Perhaps if the show had enough exposure, it could have become, potentially, one of the best series of 2006.

Kidnapped, the full series, is already out on DVD: Kidnapped - The Complete Series

It is currently airing on local cable AXN.

The series originally aired on NBC in September 2006.

Rant

TV Addict's rant coming up...

Last night at around 9PM, I was switching channels between
  • Crime/Suspense [which had Battlestar Galactica on]
  • Star World [which had King of Queens and Frasier on], and
  • JackTV [which had a show, whose title I don't know, on]
Ordinarily, a person would have gone crazy watching TV this way...but as TV is my addiction, you could probably say I was so high, as a junkie would be high on drugs, last night.

Anyhow, what I was watching on JackTV looked interesting. It's about four guys talking about women and sex (now, this is what Guy Talk is all about, this is essentially THE male version of Sex and the City).

I checked on the schedule online to find more info about the show and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a show called Jack's Booth, as seen on schedule of Monday 9 PM.

People behind this station have got to get it all together. They've been running cable TV channels for what, 4-5 years now? And to me, it still feels they're new at this and everything is on test broadcast.

The schedule is all wrong and it's not just on print, but even with what's being shown on TV. On ETC last year (since they already shifted schedules this year and I'm still getting used to it) they kept running promos of Conan O' Brien, whose schedule was supposedly Tuesdays thru Saturdays at 12MN. How many times did I try to tune to a Friday night and got no Conan?

Speaking of which, I tuned to ETC yesterday afternoon, between 2-3PM to check what's on and Conan was on TV, when I just watched him at around noontime that same day. Checked on ETC's fresh TV show line-up and guess what? It doesn't surprise me that the schedule doesn't jive.

And there's one more thing, again on ETC: Please stop running that 2 minute profile of Paris Hilton (Starstruck is what it's called, I think). I know that Starstruck isn't your production, the same thing runs on Star World and some other cable channel. But it's never always about Paris Hilton on these other channels. :P I can stand to watch it once in a while, but on ETC, it runs for like 5x a day...and it's always her!

If you run a Paris Hilton feature 5x a day (and there's a reason why it's a short feature, Solar Entertainment get a clue!!!), subconsciously, your sending signals to teens and twenty-somethings (the channel's target audience) that she is an ideal role model, the way the feature highlights her "accomplishments" like she has successfully transcended all that bad press about her and that she's a survivor, when the truth is she's ... HOLLOW! ---> Paris Hilton: I'm writing a book, it has plenty of pictures! [insert image of me rolling my eyes].

And I have not even started talking about the way they script and dub their promos. I know of some people (I'm guessing, a lot more addicted to TV than I am...) who actually came up with a list of things they find odd with the way these channels do teasers. Hilarious.

Haay, Solar Entertainment.... >:(

Ranting on an early Tuesday morning --- about TV.

Yes, I seriously need to get a social life...actually, I needed it 10 years ago.

LOL!

29 November 2006

Memories, I can smile at the old days, it was beautiful then....

Darn it.

Could not resist.

Was supposed to watch this one after I'm done with a couple of other shows but I could not resist taking a peek first, then finally giving in after. I've started watching Beverly Hills 90210. And you might say I'm going crazy (or you might not, you don't know me hehe), and I just have to pause the program to tell the world that right now --- my eyes are misty.

I heard the theme song 3 minutes into the first episode and I lost it.

Brought back tons of emotion... of my youth....all things pleasant and not so pleasant.

But most of all, I think I'm feeling nostalgic because this was the TV show my best friend and I would religiously tune to; our eyes glued to the TV, watching Brenda and Dylan, but our ears glued to the telephone (rotary pa yung telephone namin hindi push button ha and that was 1990 na!) because we were talking about the show.

And it just made me miss it... that moment, my best friend (now estranged but we're finding our way back together, one step at a time).

Let me retreat into my corner and cry some more. :(

Darn it.

If Doogie Were To Blog Today

Doogie Howser, M.D. - Season One
***From the Journals of Doogie Howser, M.D.***

January 9, 2006... Can't sleep. Had too much coffee. Watched DVDs of some 16-year old kid genius / doctor... They all dress funny. What the heck, it's the late 80's.
Loved this show. Too bad the actor who starred in it can't get on board shows as good as this any longer.

Doogie Howser, M.D.: is a television show about a 16 year old child prodigy named Douglas Howser (known to his friends and family as Doogie). He went through high school in 9 weeks, graduated from Princeton at age 10, and passed his medical board at 14. As a 16-year-old Doctor in a busy hospital, Doogie, played by Neil Patrick Harris, has to figure out how to be a professional and adult doctor, while dealing with adolescence and his first experiences in life, such as his first kiss with Wanda Plenn (Lisa Dean Ryan) and his horny best friend/neighbor, Vinnie (Max Casella). On top of these, he is still a kid who lives with his parents played by James Sikking and Belinda Montgomery.

Throughout the rest of the season, Doogie learns lessons in each episode ranging from birth to death. The end of each episode has Doogie sitting at his computer writing a small passage of what he learned in the episode. The passages are cheesy, but are also meant for children so they fully understand the point of the episode.

Doogie Howser, MD was my Friday night favorite. I was still in high school at that time and this was what everyone else was watching on TV. It came on at around 8:30 PM just right before 90210.

Watching the DVDs now bring back lots of memories....like talking and giggling on the phone with my bestfriend while we both watched the show and compared notes. Ah, high school. *sigh*
