If TV Shows Were Relationships, Mine Would Be...

College Humor has come up with this hilarious post called "If TV Shows Were Relationships" and I could relate to it oh so well.  In the archives of this blog, I think I've discussed about it in passing at one point.

I liked College Humor's take on Lost. That show really took a lot from me. By the time it ended, I was too exhausted to protest and question everything, I took what it gave. I'm not alone in this knowing several viewers of Lost were sore about the show, too. Lost made a sucker out of me. Wiser a few years after it ended, I now see that this show fucked me up big time. I can't easily appreciate complicated stories now. I practice caution, for fear of being sucked into it.

I feel the same way about The Office, but I'm watching its current and final season with renewed interest. I'm learning to love the show all over again. Since I am aware it's going to end this season, I should really be thankful I'm getting a well-deserved closure.

While I'm not geek-crazy about Firefly like many of its hardcore fans, I do get what this is about. It ended too soon, and rather tragically, yes.

We all have this certain emotional attachment to what we watch. If your life basically revolves around watching TV like mine is, the attachment goes deeper. I sometimes do regard these shows like they're "people".

I love a lot of TV, although not every show I watch is a potential "romantic relationship". But following what the original post says --- if TV shows were relationships, these would be the ones I've had serious history with...

• FRIENDS would be my true love. No one can ever measure up to it. It's the one I would marry in 100 churches and re-marry in the after-life.
• HAPPY ENDINGS would be the new relationship after FRIENDS' death, leaving me a young widow. It's a lot like my true love and it does make me happy. But it isn't FRIENDS.
• BAND OF BROTHERS would be my May-December affair. I've learned so, so much from this relationship because this TV show "boyfriend" has so much experience and wisdom.
• FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS would be my ideal marriage, if I ended up marrying it.
• HOMELAND would be my abusive relationship. I mean, this show is so good, it's orgasmic. (Seriously!) But I am always so tensed around it, I know it would be the death of me. 
• GREY'S ANATOMY would be the ex that left me very bitter.  My emotional scars for this run deep.
• FELICITY would be the college relationship I'd remember with fondness. Although I still can't figure out why it didn't work, almost a decade after we've broken up. I can't even remember how we broke up.
• SUITS right now, would be my Summer fling.
• HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER would be the relationship I feel so trapped under. Eight long years and I should've quit it, especially after last year's events. For one reason or another, I'm still holding on. And unlike The Office, I can't find new ways to love this new season. 
• BEVERLY HILLS 90210 would be the first TV relationship; the first love I would eventually grow apart from.

Lost's Desmond and Penny's Baby? Filipino!

Many of us watching Lost last week got the shock of our lives (in a good way though) when we saw what was happening during the opening scene. Desmond was frantically looking for a doctor named Efren Salonga, who to me looked like a typical "albularyo" or quack doctor.

Was surprised even further when I saw this in the background:


That would have to be our flag. If you're a foreigner visiting our country, you would hear the words "Mabuhay!" uttered quite a lot when locals greet you. (Fact: Mabuhay wasn't always quite the...errr, buzz word... that it is now. It just became so around 1993-94 when Miss Universe was staged here after some 30 years. Mabuhay means: Long Live! or To Life!).

The Philippine Flag. Mabuhay. On Lost! Wow.

Was surprised some more upon learning what Desmond needed the doctor for. His wife, Penny, was giving birth. Penny is with child, having labor pains... on Philippine shores! She was giving birth to child who will now be a Filipino, by virtue of his birthplace.

Baby Charlie Hume is Pinoy. Mabuhay!

Lost Is Back!

Apparently according to this site, there will be a million jillion quantrillion clues on the new episode of Lost which begins tonight. Is my head ready to explode? Maybe it's time to check back on my favorite Lost Theory Website and be in the loop again....

Comic Con Crazy

Over the weekend, a major event took place at San Diego --- the annual Comic-Con where fans had the chance to join panel discussions with several TV and movie people. And this is why over the weekend, TV news was kinda slow because most TV press people were covering that event.

Comic-Con: commonly known as Comic-Con or the San Diego Comic-Con, is an annual multigenre fan convention founded as the Golden State Comic Book Convention and later the San Diego Comic Book Convention in 1970 by Shel Dorf and a group of San Diegans. It is traditionally a four-day event (Thursday through Sunday—though a four hour preview night on Wednesday is open to guests pre-registered for all four days) held during the summer in San Diego, California, at the San Diego Convention Center. Comic-Con is both the name of the annual event and the common name of the organization.

Originally showcasing comic books, science fiction/fantasy and film/television (as was evident by the three circled figures appearing in Comic-Con's original logo), and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games and webcomics.

All Lost Finale All Week

I KNEW IT!!!

I called it the first time I read about that "spectacular kiss" we're supposed to expect in the season finale. I said it would have to be Desmond and Penny's reunion.

I knew it! I loved it! My chest hurts from all the crying.

I've got to get some sleep, but, gaaad, how I love this show!

I'll be posting more on Watching Lost after the weekend is over. Am taking time off with visiting relatives.

Slowing down...

I wrote about my "going blind" at Multiply, so I had to take a little break from using the computer or watching TV. Had to cut back. Just a little bit. Like 10%. Hah. So, the only show I saw today was David Cook on Ellen and HBO's Recount. There's nothing good on anyway.

DAVID COOK ON ELLEN: Cookie, he was wonderful. Loved the song he sang. Not quite a good interview though. I sense there's no energy there, nothing clicking between the interviewer and the interviewee. Maybe they were both tired and sleepy? If you missed it, there's always YouTube, see:

RECOUNT: Recount was booooooooooooooooring. I don't know what I was expecting. I was being silly thinking it would be as exciting as 24. The trailer looked like it was something to watch for, but it wasn't. Or maybe real-life politics just really bore me. But for my sake, I wanted to watch it so I'll learn something. I ended up keeping the program on, in the background, with me doing something else. Like giving myself a pedicure.



Hey, it's LOST SEASON FINALE!!! Thursday (US) and I just really have to shout that out because I know it's going to be THE. BEST. EVAHHH! I'm actually punching my keyboard so hard from all the excitement.

Oh, yeah...saw Ugly Betty's newest episode late last night, with Betty's bday episode. I wasn't too fond of it because Betty isn't my favorite character in the program. And this week, it was all about her. Maybe it's just me, but Ugly Betty is a lot more fun when it's not about ugly Betty.

Lost S4 E8 Meet Kevin Johnson

So, what exactly was non-traditional about this week’s episode of Lost? That most of the story was Michael’s flashback…or forward? I don’t know what it is anymore. I don’t know who is telling the truth. Ben tells Michael, Widmore is responsible for the cover-up. The Captain tells Sayid and Des, Ben is. Obviously, one of them is lying and the writers are genius manipulators; and we love that we’re so sucked into this.

I watch both shows but then I had no idea these shows have so many things similar in them! Until someone pointed it out.

Lost S4 E7 Ji Yeon

Lost Season 4 has so far been churning out winning episodes week after week...

Before I proceed with the recaps… this was truly a very emotional episode for me. It’s not in the same league as The Constant (which I concede to be a big, big favorite), but I could relate to how much the characters are going through — Sun’s painful delivery, the anger in Sun’s face when she slapped Juliet, the look on Sayid and Desmond’s face upon seeing Michael, and the end at the cemetery…so many things going on! We’ve got people in the freighter, the couple in the island, Losties off the island (flash foward) and a flashback…whew!

Lost S4 E5 The Constant

There clearly are lots of questions to this episode once again (does it ever run out?) But I really just wanna forget that. All I wanna do is watch this video over and over...it's the most beautifully brilliantly orchestrated moment on TV.

Lost S4 E3 The Economist

Meanwhile, Sayid, Miles and Kate reach the barracks where The Others used to reside. They find Hurley tied up and locked inside a closet and Hurley tells them Team Locke has left him behind when he suggested they let Charlotte go. Hurley tells the three, he thinks the rest of the Losties are heading towards Ben’s house. They snooped around the area and Sayid finds a secret room inside Ben’s house. It has a number of passports (all Ben’s) and some money or notes in different currency (and probably in different years). Before they could check the area further, Sayid, Miles and Kate are cornered by Team Locke. Hurley suddenly appears and apologizes for lying. | Click for RECAPS IN FULL.

Lost S4 E2 Confirmed Dead

I welcome the introduction of the four new characters. No one knows who they are yet; if they are with the good guys or with the bad guys. But I can tell you now --- I love them all.

The episode opens with the four characters about to jump off the helicopter Frank was commanding, and they got separated as a result. Daniel is immediately found by Jack and Kate and then later, when Jack and Kate found the rest of his things and saw what was inside, he tells them that “rescuing” the group was not their primary reason. | Click for RECAPS IN FULL
